As a general rule, people have a natural yearning to be successful. So, when there are situations in which people are not achieving the level of success that they desire, it is imperative to determine why. One component of success that is necessary is self-confidence. Fortunately, it is possible for people who suffer from a lack of self-confidence to develop it adequately. This article provides five proven methods for building self-confidence
Generally speaking, every person is born with a natural desire to be successful. In fact, self-help and personal development experts will all confirm that the desire to be successful is rarely an issue when they are working with their clients. People simply have an innate yearning to do well in life, in all aspects of human existence. However, from achieving success at a high level for any sustained period of time. Some people struggle with fear; others struggle with procrastination, and others suffer from a lack of self-confidence.
Self-confidence is a principal component in the progression. However, when self-confidence is lacking, any true progression along the continuum that leads to success is virtually impossible. Fortunately, there are some steps that a person who suffers from a lack of self-confidence can do to develop sufficient confidence in themselves to drive them toward the achievement of those things that are important to them. Regardless of what a person's ultimate goal may be, self-confidence will be key. Following are five of the most effective methods for helping a person improve their self-confidence.
Go for Quick Impact
Because the human mind is so complex, there is no one set pathway to self-confidence; however, there is one definite point of focus - the subconscious. Behavioral scientists are still learning and marveling at the power of the human subconscious.
The average person will process anywhere between 40,000 and 50,000 thoughts throughout the course of the day. We also understand that as a person learns to manage their thought processes, they will actually develop the capacity to remap their neurological wiring. Because of the complexity of the human mind, there is a multitude of methodologies through which a person can effectively develop an adequate self-image leading to stronger self-confidence.
One way that this can be done is by taking what is known as quick-impact routes. For instance, if a person has realized any type of academic achievement, such as diplomas and certificates. Quickly gazing at these documents can immediately remind the person that they have the capacity to take on challenges and overcome them.
One of the first things that many personal development therapists will do is ensure that the person has all documented accomplishments in clear view, in a place in which they will be able to see them every day.
Another quick impact method is retrospective examination. When a person can revisit their past successes, it becomes a reminder of what they are capable of efficaciously eliminating any anxiety or uncertainty that they may be struggling with at the current moment. Basically, any activity that has the capacity to introduce a person to their best self can help improve self-confidence.
Eliminate Negativity
Something that is amazing about humans is that they are wired to perceive the negative with little to no effort. It does not take any effort at all for a person to see the negative side of any life equation. It does not take much for doubt and fear to set in.
To build confidence one must seriously consider getting away from those individuals who put you down and shred your confidence. Be positive, even if you're not feeling it quite yet. Put some joy into your interactions with others. Stop focusing on the problems in your life and instead begin to focus on solutions and making positive changes.

Be Prepared
Preparation breeds confidence: Preparation is the foundation of confidence. This preparation includes the physical, technical, tactical, equipment-related and mental parts of what you need to do, and it means putting the necessary time and effort into every aspect of your training.
Learn everything there is to know about your field, job, presentation--whatever is next on your "to conquer" list. If you are prepared and have the knowledge to back it up, your self-confidence will soar.
For Tough Times, When All Else Fails: Create A Great List
Life is full of challenges and there are times when it's difficult to keep our self-confidence up. Sit down right now and make a list of all the things in your life that you are thankful for, and another list of all the things you are proud of accomplishing.
Once your lists are complete, post them on your refrigerator door, on the wall by your desk, on your bathroom mirror--somewhere where you can easily be reminded of what an amazing life you have and what an amazing person you really are. If you feel your self-confidence dwindling, take a look at those lists and let yourself feel and be inspired all over again by you.
Change Your Body Language and Image
This is where posture, smiling, eye contact and speech slowly come into play. Just the simple act of pulling your shoulders back gives others the impression that you are a confident person. Smiling will not only make you feel better but will make others feel more comfortable around you. Imagine a person with good posture and a smile and you'll be envisioning someone who is self-confident.
Look at the person you are speaking to, not at your shoes--keeping eye contact shows confidence. Last, speak slowly. Research has proved that those who take the time to speak slowly and clearly feel more self-confident and appear more self-confident to others. The added bonus is they will actually be able to understand what you are saying.
Go the extra mile and style your hair, give yourself a clean shave, and dress nicely. Not only will this make you feel better about yourself, but others are more likely to perceive you as successful and self-confident as well. A great tip: When you purchase a new outfit, practice wearing it at home first to get past any wardrobe malfunctions before heading out.
