Dusseldorf really is Germany at its finest. The city itself has a low unemployment rate, making it one of the wealthiest cities in Germany. The beautiful and elegant city is located on the banks of the River Rhine. The city is very cosmopolitan and full of fancy hotels and designer labels.

Dusseldorf is a great place for visitors of any age and race, with plenty to do at all times, Transport Nearly all areas of Dusseldorf can be easily reached with public transport. The three main transportation options available are buses, trams, and the railway network. 

There are three kinds of tickets that can be purchased: Short trip ticket - These are valid for 30 minutes, which is about 4 stops and can be purchased for 1.30 Euros. Each vending machine will show a map with what areas can be reached with these tickets.  These cost 2.30 Euros and are valid for 90 minutes, which is great for reaching many destinations within Dusseldorf.

Day ticket - These are exactly as they sound. They can be purchased at 5.30 Euros and are valid until midnight, which will get you anywhere and back with time to spare. History and Culture Dusseldorf started as a small village on the River Dussel and then gradually grew into a regional capital.

By the 20th century, it had become a prosperous city but was targeted by the RAF who bombed and literally destroyed it. Rebuilding work began quickly and it wasn't long before Dusseldorf became the financial center for Germany and the very wealthy city we know today.

Things to See and Do

The old town is where people in Dusseldorf head for things to do. There are many old buildings and churches that are great if you love exploring. It is, by far, one of the most fascinating and interesting areas of Dusseldorf. The promenade on the Rhine is great to walk along if the weather is good.

If shopping is more your thing, why not take a trip to Konigsallee on the edge of the old town, where you'll find high-end specialty shops and designer boutiques? Eating and Drinking Dusseldorf has many great restaurants serving food from all over the world to fit any budget that you may have.

A short trip to the Altstadt is where you'll find around 260 different restaurants to choose from. Dusseldorf houses some of the fanciest restaurants in the world. When in Dusseldorf, don't forget to try the local beer: Altbier, more commonly known as Alt.
